Zombies Ate the Neighbors 5K
Run for your life from flesh hungry Zombies through a 3.1 mile track run where ZOMBIES are the obstacles! Runners wear a flag belt. Protect these flags, they’re your “life.” Zombies are staged throughout the course ready to chase you and steal your flags. Try to survive, if you can... Lose your flags, and you can still finish the course as a runner. Look for Safe Zones at mile markers/ water stations, and pick up an extra life flag! There will also be stations to upgrade your defense mechanisms to ward off zombies. The faster you make it to a Safe Zone, the better equipped you will be to defend yourself from those pesky braine eaters. Prepare for walkers, runners, crawlers... and some surprises along the way. Registration is free, but we are accepting donations for the Cathie Ponikvar Memorial NRHH Scholarship at https://www.uff.ufl.edu/giving-opportunities/001989-cathie-ponikvar-memorial-nrhh-scholarship/ The Cathie Ponikvar Memorial NRHH Scholarship is an annual scholarship award given to an outstanding UF leader living in the residence halls. The winner’s name will also be inscribed on the perpetual plaque displayed in the UF NRHH Office. The purpose of this scholarship is to increase awareness of the need to balance academic excellence with community involvement and leadership. Who is Cathie Ponikvar?Cathie Ponikvar worked at the Division of Housing (now known as the Department of Housing andResidence Education) for ten years (1975-1985), and the last number of years as the Assistant Director ofHousing for Staff and Student Development. In her work with both student leaders and housing staff, Cathie showed great concern for the individuals she worked with and advised. She not only set high standards for herself, but she also helped others to set such standards for themselves. Cathie encouraged students to contribute to residence hall life in addition to encouraging their involvement in other campus activities. She stressed to the students she worked with the importance of balancing extra-curricular involvement and academics. Cathie was always willing to get involved. She enjoyed working behind the scenes – teaching, advising, and being a role model, and valued these same qualities in the student leaders she worked with. In Cathie Ponikvar’s memory and honor, this scholarship has not only been named after her, but shall be awarded to those students who exemplify and strive for the qualities that Cathie both possessed and valued in the student leaders she worked with.
